Wavelength

Agile Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) services to Australia's major locations, powered by Lumea Wavelength.

Data Centre Interconnect

Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) is a direct point-to-point link between your data centres and public clouds, built for fast data transfer and reliable backups. By connecting multiple sites, DCI reduces the risk of downtime and keeps your critical systems running if one location is affected.

Lumea's Data Centre Interconnect service is powered by Lumea Wavelength.

Lumea wavelength

A high-capacity, point-to-point data carriage service utilising the OPGW aerial fibre network and the latest Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology.

A perfect customer solution for large bandwidth applications such as Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) and database replication to satisfy bandwidth-demanding and dynamic business environments, available between any of Lumea's connected data centres across NSW, QLD, ACT and VIC.

Note: Additional data centres may be available. Please contact us for more information.

Lumea Wavelength (LW) enables you to extend or supplement your telecommunications network. Built on next-generation DWDM technology, LW is compliant with international standards, supporting a range of customer interfaces at speeds of up to 800Gbps.

Features and benefits of Lumea wavelength

Scalability

Your wavelength grows with your needs  future-proof your organisation with scalable speeds up to 800Gbps to suit your bandwidth requirements.

Coverage

Our network offers CBD, Metro and regional coverage using aerial and underground fibre and third-party access network extensions.

Performance

Lumea's state-of-the-art network provides guaranteed latency, complete protocol transparency; all with minimal jitter and frame loss.

Cost Efficiency

Lumea's high-capacity network provides attractive commercial offers, supporting customers in reaching scalable cost effectiveness, regardless of where they are on the capacity requirement curve.

Security

With network encryption available as an option to mitigate risk, wavelength services act as a key component of a customer's security strategy. This significantly reduces the chances of data being lost or stolen in a readable form.

Why choose DCI serviced by Lumea

Stringent operational standards

Lumea differentiates itself by operating in a critical infrastructure environment, our assets are held to stringent operational standards.

Innovative solution

Critical thinking is a key pillar of Lumea. We work outside traditional parameters to offer customers innovative outcomes.

Fibre in the Sky

Our Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) aerial fibre ensures built-in physical resiliency and security against natural disasters and fibre vandalism.

Local Assurance Support, 24/7

Back your service with an experienced, Australia-based team providing 24/7 connection and assurance support.

How does Lumea Wavelength work?

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is an optical multiplexing technology used to increase bandwidth over existing fibre networks. DWDM works by combining and transmitting multiple signals simultaneously at different wavelengths on the same fibre, multiplying the capacity of the fibre.

Wavelength FAQs

What is Data Centre Interconnect?

Data Centre Interconnect provides point-to-point connectivity between data centres and public clouds to enable the rapid transfer of data and allow back-ups for redundancy. Redundancy secures network availability and decreases failure risk along critical data paths.Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) enables the transmission of these critical data assets over any distance:

  • metro

  • regional

  • longhaul between capital cities & regional centres

Lumea's DCI service is available between selected major data centres in capital cities across Australia's Eastern network: Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Contact us today to confirm if your data centre can be served by Lumea.

Lumea offers wavelength services at 10Gbps, 100Gbps and 400Gbps. Contact us to discuss your speed options further.

The DCI service is powered by Lumea's highly reliable Wavelength network, designed and built under stringent operational standards with built-in physical resiliency. DCI services are, by default, offered as a single wavelength path between data centres. Increased link protection and diversity options are available on request.

Lumea's core network uses optical fibres built on electrical transmission lines (OPGW, or aerial fibre), which provides built-in diversity from ground-level fibre used by other carriers and is less prone to natural disasters such as bushfires and flooding.

Data Centre Interconnect (DCI) is the service/use case - it's what a customer is trying to achieve: point-to-point connectivity between their data centres and public clouds, for fast data transfer and backup/redundancy purposes.
Lumea Wavelength is the underlying network technology that makes DCI possible, the actual "how": a high-capacity, point-to-point data carriage service running over Lumea's OPGW aerial fibre network using DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology.
